Riot Strengthens Penalty System for Toxic Behavior in Matches

Time: 2025-06-09 15:55 (UTC)

In the latest Dev Update from June 9, Riot Games announced a tightening of the penalty system for disruptive behavior in matches. According to the developers, their automatic detection system for feeders and griefers now operates with 99.95% accuracy, and the company is ready to enforce stricter measures against violators, especially in ranked mode.

Penalties Will Be Tougher for High-Ranked Players
Riot emphasizes that the strict sanctions will primarily affect high-ranking players. The new policy targets those who deliberately sabotage games, rather than less experienced participants. The list of violations also includes "spammy" use of abilities like Anivia's wall or Trundle's pillars if it impacts the team's gameplay.

New Sanctions for Repeat Offenders
Repeat offenders will no longer be able to "relax" in modes like Normals or Swiftplay. Instead, they will be directed to special ranked queues with limited functionality — this measure aims to reduce toxicity and protect honest players.

Riot Tests Auto-Completion for Toxic Matches
The developers are also testing a system capable of automatically ending matches in cases of critically disruptive player behavior. Similar to Vanguard in Valorant, the technology will only be implemented after community feedback is collected.

Honor System Update
A revamp of the Honor system is also planned. Riot wants it to more accurately reflect players' contributions to a positive match atmosphere and encourage constructive behavior. Details on these changes will be revealed later by the developers.

Riot Games has been combating toxic behavior in its games for years. Previously, the company implemented automatic detection of abusive chat and a report system with subsequent bans. The new measures are a logical continuation of the effort to improve the competitive environment, especially in ranked games where the stakes are higher than in casual modes.
