KeSPA Opens Applications for Hosting MSI 2026 in South Korea

Time: 2025-07-15 15:46 (UTC)

The South Korean Esports Association (KeSPA) has officially launched the city selection process for hosting the Mid-Season Invitational 2026 for League of Legends. Starting July 15, municipalities in the country can apply to host both the MSI itself and the "Road to MSI" qualifying tournament. Both event series are scheduled to take place in June and July 2026: the qualifiers from June 6 to 14, and the main tournament from June 26 to July 12.

KeSPA specified that priority will be given to cities willing to host both tournaments. The final decision on the venue is expected in November 2025—likely coinciding with the final stage of Worlds 2025. Key requirements for the host city include having an arena that can accommodate 3,000–5,000 spectators, at least one four-star hotel with no fewer than 500 rooms, and the availability of a venue for stage setup and teardown throughout the entire month ( June 16 – July 16).

According to KeSPA's plans, MSI 2026 should be held in a single location, with the total number of spectators expected to range from 45,000 to 75,000 throughout the tournament. An additional 15,000 fans are anticipated for the "Road to MSI." Furthermore, South Korea 's esports authorities require candidates to have a clear budget, support from local authorities, and plans for organizing accompanying entertainment events to attract tourists.

South Korea has previously hosted MSI only once—in 2022 in Busan , where the title was claimed by Royal Never Give Up . However, the country has hosted Worlds three times—in 2014, 2018, and 2023—and will host the main tournament of the season again in 2027.

The main contenders for hosting MSI 2026 are currently Seoul and Busan —both cities have extensive experience in organizing international League of Legends tournaments.
