Fly explained why Immortal Draft players will have to register a new nickname in Dota 2

Time: 2025-03-21 10:20 (UTC)

Valve decided to implement a no name change system during the Immortal Draft feature within the game in order to put an end to dishonest players and griefers. This is something Tal “ Fly ” Aizik praised the developers for.

The esports player posted his commentary on his X (Twitter) account.

“Names being displayed was 100% needed, it was impossible to track the griefers when they can just change names/profiles every game & you can't check if they were pre-muted during draft”

According to Fly , fixed nicknames became necessary in order to catch profile griefers or account boosters during the draft. In his view, not only were the offending players able to change their names or profiles, but it was impossible to track them in a game. This change will certainly make public games less painful.

As a final thought, viewing these changes one would need to consider a few known factors which consist of the rules only applying to Immortal Draft users with an MMR higher than 8500. A number of professional esports players claimed to have met too many game destroyers and wanted a dodge option.

In the most recent update to Dota 2 Valve changed the matchmaking system and it was quite a revolution.
