Dota 2 sees 105,000 player increase in August

The average number of players in Dota 2 for the month reached 532,355 — a 25% increase compared to July. The online player count grew by 105,682, and the peak number hit 818,732 players — the best result in recent times. This surge in activity is linked to the release of a free compendium, a balance update, and the launch of an in-game event ahead of The International 2025.

On August 20, the game introduced a free TI14 compendium. This is the first battle pass in the game's history available at no cost. It includes quests, leveling, and cosmetic rewards that can be earned without in-game purchases.

At the beginning of the month, Valve released patch 7.39d, which adjusted the balance of heroes and items. At the same time, the character Quartero was added to the game, participating in an event with free in-game rewards.

The increase in online activity coincides with the active preparation for The International 2025, which kicks off on September 4 and runs until September 14. It is expected that the activity levels will remain high at least until the tournament concludes.
