South America struggles at Elite League Season 2

The Elite League Season 2 put the South American Dota 2 LAN back on the menu but the regional teams have failed to show up. With five teams hailing from Peru and Brazil, only  beastcoast  remains. 

Four of the teams were eliminated in the Swiss Stage. 

If the Round Robin Stage saw eliminations, beastcoast would be in serious danger. They are currently sitting in last place, without a series win to their name with a 0:4 series/ 2:8 match record.  They have faced off against against  OG  (0:2), 1Win (0:2), Shopify (1:2), and  Execration  (1:2). Today they will go head-to-head with Liquid and  nouns , leaving their match against BOOM for tomorrow. 

They are lucky that even the team in last place advances to the playoffs, but it would sure be nice to see them rally in the next two days and secure an upper-bracket placement – at least for the local fans looking to attend this weekend.

Elite League S2 Round Robin Stage Format

The competition will feature three different stages starting with the six qualified teams placed in a modified Swiss group stage. ESB is yet to announce how many teams from the Swiss stage will make the cut to the next group stage.  

• Round-Robin Stage (Group Stage 2) - July 28 - July 31, 2024
  • One single round-robin group of eight teams
  • All matches are Bo2
  • Top four teams advance to the upper bracket of playoffs
  • Remaining teams advance to the lower bracket of playoffs

Elite League S2 prize pool

Initially, the tourney was announced with $800,000 on the line, but in a recent press conference held in Lima, Peru by ESB, it was revealed that the prize pool was bumped up to $1,000,000,000. 

$800,000 will be spread among the participants as seen below:

• 2nd place  $120,000
• 3rd place $72,000
• 4th place $56,000
• 5th-6th place $52,000
• 7th-8th place $32,000 
• 9th-11th place $24,000  Evil Rabbit   /  Cuyes Esports  /  Yellow Submarine  /  Heroic  
• 12th-14th place $16,000 ApexGenesis / MOUZ 
• 15th-16th place $12,000  Infinity  / Fusion eSports

Additionally, $200,000 will be distributed to the participating teams in proportion to their team's viewership during the Main Event according to the official rule book. 

Elite League S2 Venue

The last three days in the playoffs, August 2-4, will be held with a live audience at the ESAN Convention & Sports Center. The venue can host around 1000 people with extra space being arranged in an outdoor area. The ticket prices for each day of the event range between $42 and $84 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.pe.
