The International 2024 could be more like the majors - Ppd

Time: 2024-08-25 12:00 (UTC)

Peter “ppd” Dagher believes that The International 2024 will be much smaller in scale than previous tournaments in the series.

The pro player stated that this year's tournament will be more like the majors through which teams used to qualify for TI.

The former cybersportsman shared his respective opinion in a comment to Metaratings.

“Given the current situation, I expect a scaling down compared to traditional TI events, especially outside of Seattle. This year's tournament may look more like the majors we've seen in the past. However, I hope PGL surprises us with a few unique features that will make the event special.”

The player also adds that the hype surrounding this year's tournament is virtually non-existent, and he sees PGL as the only party interested in the tournament's success. However, the tournament operator is not involved in the pre-championship awareness campaign.

“The hype around TI2024 is absent, it's true. Valve has never been strong at marketing, traditionally relying on compendium to create hype. Without that, the lead-up to the event seems lame. Unfortunately, PGL is the only party interested in promoting the event, and it's not directly involved in the events leading up to TI.”

According to Peter “ppd” Dugger, the quality of The International's tournament organization went downhill after 2017, and the problem became especially acute when the tournament was no longer held in Seattle. The player is disappointed with the diminishing scale of the legendary series, but thinks it's a good thing that Valve will move away from organizing events.

“TI's era of greatness has gone downhill since 2017, especially after the event moved out of Seattle. It's a shame that TI has lost its former appeal, but perhaps it's not such a bad thing if Valve steps away from continuing the baton.”
