Winter Map May Return to League of Legends

Time: 2025-08-14 16:13 (UTC)

On the League of Legends test server, attentive players discovered files related to a winter version of Summoner's Rift after the latest update. This has sparked rumors that the themed map might return in the third season of 2025. It's most likely that the release will occur at the beginning of the second act to coincide with a major in-game event or the winter holidays.

The winter map in League of Legends is an alternative design of the standard Summoner's Rift, where the green summer location transforms into a snowy landscape. Trees are covered with frost, the river freezes, and the background and details take on cold hues. In past years, Riot Games added themed sound effects to create the atmosphere of a winter event.

The last time such a version of the map appeared was several years ago during New Year's events. Later, it was discontinued to focus on game stability and resource optimization, as each seasonal modification requires additional testing and support. However, the return of the winter variant could be part of Riot's strategy to expand content and maintain player interest between major updates.

There are no official comments from Riot Games yet, but the appearance of such files on the PBE usually indicates that the content is actively being prepared for release. If the information is confirmed, players will receive a festive update with a winter atmosphere this year.
