Riot Games to crack down on smurfing in VALORANT

Time: 2025-05-30 17:11 (UTC)

In 2025, VALORANT will introduce a new system requiring additional verification for suspicious accounts. This and other updates were revealed in a recent video on the game’s official YouTube channel.

Smurfing remains one of VALORANT’s biggest issues — high-ranked players disrupt lower-ranked matches by creating secondary accounts or using those of friends. After ongoing community complaints, Riot Games has decided to implement an extra verification step for suspicious accounts later this year. Most likely, this will involve SMS verification or a dedicated mobile app.

Additionally, a new report category — “Rank/Matchmaking Abuse” — will be added to the in-game reporting system to better identify and act on such behavior.

There is no exact launch date for the system yet, but its release is planned for 2025. For more details on upcoming features like the transition to Unreal Engine 5 and the new replay system, check out our other articles.
