CS2 Might Bring Back Retake Mode, Add Bidding System and Pets

Time: 2025-07-29 07:00 (UTC)

After the night update of CS2 , dataminers began extracting intriguing finds from the game files. Some seem to confirm old rumors, while others introduce entirely new mechanics and content. Valve is preparing CS2 for a major expansion, and it seems players can expect more than just a balance patch.

Auction in Armory — a betting system for limited items
One of the most interesting discoveries was the mention of a new betting system in Armory. Players will be able to place bets using stars (possibly a Battle Pass currency equivalent) on time-limited items. Each series of items will be available for a short period, after which the highest bids win. Missed out? No worries, the auction will reopen in a few hours.

This mechanic adds excitement and interest to collecting and could become a new incentive for in-game activity. The ability to place, confirm, or cancel bets at any time makes the system flexible and dynamic.

Return of Retake
It has also been revealed that the Retake mode is returning to CS2 . This competitive format was popular in CS:GO — it speeds up the practice of bomb planting and defusal situations. Mentions in the game files hint at an imminent release or testing.

Valve likely listened to the community, which has long requested more modes for team play and practice. The return of Retake will add depth to matchmaking preparation and esports competitions.

Pets in CS2
One of the most unexpected discoveries was the mention of a new cosmetic item — "Pets." Currently, the files feature a model of an egg named egg_pristine. Moreover, new animations of CS2 characters holding a chicken in their hands have appeared — possibly, these scenes will show up in the menu or during side changes.

Rain on Ancient Night
The map Ancient Night, which hasn't been officially released yet, now reportedly includes weather effects — specifically, rain. This could resemble the atmosphere of the Train map in CS. The new visuals add depth to the map's perception and may affect gameplay and visibility.

Valve remakes Cache
Files of the new version of the map de_cache_s2 mention smartprop — a technology not used in the original remake by FMPONE. This could mean Valve is doing its own rework of the legendary Cache map. It's not just a visual redesign — it's a chance to see a CS classic revamped to meet the physics and visual standards of Source 2.

ar_monastery and clan tags
Traces of the map ar_monastery and the return of clan tags have also been noticed. This could indicate an expansion of the arsenal mode and the development of social functionality in CS2 . Clan tags are an important part of the community scene and esports, and arsenal maps may be linked to new modes or events.

Valve is betting on making CS2 not just a successor to CS:GO, but a full-fledged gaming platform. Bets, pets, weather effects, remakes of legendary maps, and the return of old modes — all point to a comprehensive strategy to revitalize and expand the game.
