NRG Esports parted ways with their VALORANT head coach

Time: 2025-05-02 19:00 (UTC)

The organization NRG Esports , which competes in VCT Americas, parted ways with its head coach following a failure at VCT 2025: Americas Stage 1. The club announced this on its social media.

In February 2025, before the start of VCT 2025: Americas Stage 1, the organization announced the signing of a new head coach — Michael "Mikes" Hockom, who replaced Malkolm "bonkar" Rench. However, after the tournament ended, the club also parted ways with him. NRG Esports managed to advance from the group stage in 4th place, which meant they started the playoffs from the lower bracket, where they were defeated by 100 Thieves with a score of 2:0 and exited the tournament, losing all chances for Masters Toronto 2025.

As of today, I will no longer be a part of the NRG roster. Unfortunately, due to differences in opinion on the future of the team, it has been decided that we part ways. While this has been one of my most challenging experiences in esports, I am still grateful for the opportunity from the players and management, and wish them the best next stage. I am open to offers from teams who are interested in an assistant coach/analyst to supplement their staff for the second half of the season. I am also facing the solemn reality that this may be my last major esports opportunity. In the event that this is the outcome, I would like to thank those who have supported me over the past five years.

At the moment, the club has not announced who will take over as head coach of the NRG Esports VALORANT team, and the coaching staff now only includes Joe "Strong" Edwards, who serves as the assistant coach. Their next tournament within the VCT will be VCT 2025: Americas Stage 2, but before that, the club may participate in the EWC qualifiers.
