After a long break from tier-1 play, Mehmet "cNed" İpek returned to FUT Esports ’ starting lineup, taking on a new role and helping the team secure a victory over Gentle Mates in VCT 2025: EMEA Stage 2. Following the match, the former Champions winner spoke about adapting to his new position and shared insights on his comeback.

He also commented on the current state of the Turkish VALORANT scene in his absence and revealed who made the call to bench Ata "ATA KAPTAN" Tan and bring him back into the active roster.

Many didn’t expect you to return to the pro scene so soon, let alone replace ATA KAPTAN. Who made the decision for you to play the smoker role?

I’m not exactly sure whose idea it was. After Stage 1, I was asked if I wanted to try playing smokes. The scene keeps evolving, so we have to adapt. I like the role — I actually learned how to play smokes from 🇺🇦 ANGE1 back when I was on Navi .

You’ve probably seen a lot of people online doubting you as a smoker.

Yeah, I saw it all — but I don’t care what they say.

How much time did you have to practice in this new role?

I played Omen non-stop for three weeks. At first, it was rough. You have to help your team with smokes and hold your site — you’re the anchor. I can’t play as aggressively as I did on duelist. If I die, we lose all our smokes. But I think I’ve adapted to the role now.

I liked your comps today. Who comes up with the agent lineups — the coach or the whole team?

Our comps usually don’t stray far from the meta. We always discuss what fits each map as a team. The priority is making sure everyone feels comfortable on their agent — even if it means moving away from the meta. That’s the only way we can perform at our best.

You used to be the only Turkish player known globally. Now we’re seeing a new wave of talent from Turkey . Are you ready to reclaim the title of best Turkish player?

I hope so. I’ll do everything I can. I don’t want to start drama or trash talk — but I’m ready.
