Guilhoto: "We have the right to complain about the format, but in the end, it's the same for everyone"

Time: 2025-09-17 11:30 (UTC)

LEC 2025 Summer concluded for  GIANTX  with a defeat to  Fnatic , which ended the team's chances of competing for Worlds 2025.

In an exclusive interview with sheepesports, head coach André "Guilhoto" Pereira shared his emotions after the series, discussing the team's critical mistakes, instability, and future.

GIANTX approached the summer split with hopes for growth: roster changes, including the addition of Ismaël "ISMA" Boualem, promised new momentum. However, after the unsuccessful first map against Fnatic , the team couldn't recover. Guilhoto notes that this mistake set the tone for the entire match and effectively buried their comeback chances.

Mistakes, Drafts, and GX's Inner Workings

When asked about the controversial draft decisions, Guilhoto explained that the choice of Sion in the mid lane was a pre-planned strategy.

We've done this before. We usually use it on the red side, but in this game against Jarvan, it was a good decision. It actually worked.

Speaking about the staff's work, Guilhoto emphasized that he remains the key voice in matters of strategy and structure.

Everything related to the team goes through me: draft, structure, macro. ISMA turned out to be the most progressive player of the year.

On Stability and Competitors

The coach noted that GIANTX still lags behind Europe's leading organizations in experience and stability.

The difference between us and KC, Fnatic , G2 Esports is only in stability and experience. The names of the organizations still mean too much. They bring confidence and experience, which is hard to compensate for.

On the Summer Split Format

Despite criticism of the system, Guilhoto stressed that the conditions are the same for everyone.

Yes, we have the right to complain, but in the end, the format is the same for everyone. We all signed these rules, and the players' job is to play, even if it's just one bo5.

Future and Worlds

The season is over, and it's time for a break for Guilhoto.

Now I'll be spending time with my kids, reading books, and preparing for next year. Whether I stay with the team is still an open question.

He also shared his opinion on the decisive match for the Worlds slot.

Honestly, I hope both teams lose. But looking at the results, KC is stronger, although the crowd support in Madrid will play for Fnatic .

Guilhoto highlights the main coaching paradox: the team made progress and improved, but couldn't withstand the pressure at the crucial moment. His candid words about stability, the significance of brands, and disappointment after the defeat show how great the distance is between a solid team and Europe's elite. For GIANTX , the summer ended early, but the foundation laid could be the start of a new season.
